Our god sons Benjamin and Joshua Hackett are the twin sons of my cousin Rosanna (nee Nockolds) and her husband Phillip who is a QC.

Our god daughter Jane Smedley, aged 16. Jane lives in Guernsey and has just returned from Kenya where she climbed Mount Kenya (August 2007.) She had just heard that she achieved an A* for all her nine GCSE's.

Niralie is our god-daughter although she is a Hindu. We have known her since before she was born and Niralie is now a stunning young lady working in PR in London

Alice, Nicholas and Christina Farrer with me on the landing of their house in Scotland. Alice is my god-daughter and is a teenager now. They are robust, pink-cheeked and sporty children who have masses of animals and their childhood is idyllic. When I stayed with them on this occasion, they all got into bed with me in the morning, with icy cold feet and hands and we played I Spy. Christina did one which we had to give up on, which was “I spy with my little eye, something beginning with F and S”. We tried and tried and finally had to stop and she said “It’s Fly Shit!” On the window pane was a tiny little speck of fly shit and she had spied it…..

This is my god-daughter Camilla Blain with her brother Alexander, known as Big Al. She is now a fully fledged neurologist and Al has a rock band.
