This lovely old Venetian Gothic house is in Bucharest. There are many such places still intact and they give some idea of the life led in the capital city before the dreaded veil of Communism fell on the city.
This is Malancrav village in Transylvania seen from the churchyard. Malancrav is the village where we have helped to fund the stabilising and restoration of frescoes in the Saxon Church, through The Romanian Cultural Foundation of which we are Trustees.

The Saxon church at Malancrav
The recently restored ceiling frescoes of Malancrav church.
Some of the frescoes in the process of restoration. These were painted in the 1420s. They have been damaged by sunlight and humidity.
The magnificent altarpiece at Malancrav church. Shafts of sunlight stream in for only a few moments in the mid-afternoon.
The decorative Pulpit crown and restored frescoes.
The Foundation has funded restoration of the organ at Malancrav, which was built in 1925 by Wegenstein, a local Timisoara firm, in the gothic revival style. The organ had been badly damaged by mice and woodworm. Since it has been repaired it has been used every Sunday as well as for occasional concerts.
