Andrew Birkin married his beautiful girlfriend Karen in the summer of 2006 and we were invited to celebrate the union. We all had to wear Directoire, French Revolutionary attire. Everyone did. Here is Andrew Birkin, the groom, looking a bit worse for wear with Robert at the wedding party. It was held in the most extraordinary building, the former Embassy of Sierra Leone in Portland Place. There were flagstone floors at the back and a wonderful thin stone staircase and room after room of dark painted walls and faded panelling. We all gave Andrew and Karen a fruit tree for their orchard in Wales. We chose a pear as Andrew eats a pear every day for breakfast...
