This gypsy family are living in one room of an old Saxon village house in Richis. The woman is holding her 8th child. The children were so excited about having their photo taken and I have framed a print of this picture to send to them.

This old woman spotted me taking this photo as she entered her local shop in Richis, a village in Transylvania.

This is a typical Transylvanian farmhouse seen from the walls of the Church at Biertan. The grass, which has been cut by hand with a scythe is piled into a conical stack draped over a wooden frame in the little meadow.

This is the tower of Biertan’s Saxon fortified Church in Transylvania. The wooden viewing platform was used to look out for enemy invaders and all the villagers would take their precious possessions up to the Church and remain safe behind the wall.
